DofE – the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

What is it?

The Award is a programme of activities for you to do in your spare time. There are three Awards:

BRONZE

SILVER

GOLD
 
You simply have to chose an activity under the following headings and do it for a set period of time:
VOLUNTEERING        SKILLS           PHYSICAL      EXPEDITION

It will take you at least 6 months to do the Bronze Award, at least 12 months to do the Silver Award and at least 18 months to complete the Gold Award.You can work on as many sections as you like at the same time but one activity can’t count for two sections.

 Who can do it?

The Award can be done by anyone aged 14-25 years, male or female, able-bodied or not, regardless of religion or background.

Special qualifications are not needed, just a willingness to have a go!

  • If you are 14 years, you can do the Bronze Award
  • If you are 15 years, you can do the Silver Award
  • If you are 16 years and over, you can do the Gold Award

All Awards have to be completed by your 25th birthday.

Why do it?

You fit it round your studying and social life.

 
Because it’s about having fun, spending time with friends, increasing your confidence, learning something new or improving skills you already have.
Over 225,000 young people in the UK are doing the Award. In Wokingham, there are 1550 young people currently doing the Award in 15 Award Groups.
Many employees regard the Award as an extra qualification so it could benefit your career.
