Did you know that there exists a “Youth Offer” in Wokingham Borough?
The Youth Offer states that you are entitled to have access to:
- 2 hours of sporting activity each week; and
- 2 hours of other cultural and development activities each week; and
- 2 hours of constructive activities after school each week; and
- a range of safe and enjoyable places to go with your friends and a range of challenging person and social development programmes and activities; and
- volunteering and voluntary action opportunities; and
- the information and advice to enable you to make informed choices in your lives
Where can I find out about what I can access in Wokingham?
As this website grows, this should be your first port-of-call when searching for things to do, places to go, and information and advice. Our aim is to ensure that everything you need can be accessed through the site.
Also take a look at the Wokingham Information Network pages for 13-19 year olds here.
Does this mean that all the activities are free?
No. The offer is there to ensure access to activities which on the whole already exist through a range of providers, private, voluntary and local authority (youth service, for example).
What if I can’t access the things I am entitled to in the offer?
If cost is an issue for you and you are entitled to free school meals, then you can access up to £300 a year towards positive activities via your school from April 2010. Talk to someone in your school office.
If you live in a place which has no public transport, and this is stopping you from getting to activities, we may be able to help. If you can get a group of mates together, contact us (activeyouth@wokingham.gov.uk) about putting on transport for you.
If what you want to do is not on offer, or you experience any other barriers to accessing the activities you want to, tell us (activeyouth@wokingham.gov.uk) and we will do everything we can to help.
