LGBT
Wokingham Youth Service offers a safe, non judgemental environment for all young people to be open and themselves. Equality is one of the Youth Services proudest statements so don’t feel you have to miss out because of your sexuality!
If you are a young LGBT (lesbian,gay,bi-sexual, transgender) person who needs support / advice from trained youth workers, visit one of our centres. Or contact them on the numbers listed on this website.
There are fantastic organisations outside of Youth Service who are designed to help young LGBT people.
Queer Youth Network
“QYN exists as an autonomous, youth-focused movement that aims to provide a progressive, innovative, infrastructure at grass-roots level to improve the general well-being for all young people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Transsexual, Intersex, Questioning, Curious, Asexual, Pansexual or ‘Queer’ and /or who are socially marginalised as a result of their identity as well as those who advocate on their behalf.
‘Local Reps’ lead 9 regional QYN Groups throughout the UK. The organisation is also responsible for the formation of a national voice for LGBT young people in Wales: LGBT Youth Wales. In Scotland it works closely with LGBT Youth Scotland, and GLYNI (Gay and Lesbian Youth Northern Ireland) who are affiliated member groups of which there are now over 200.
Queer Youth London is one of the movement’s most active groups. As a fully youth-led collective it holds regular monthly meets all over Greater London and the South East.”

Pink Parents
Another great organisation (although targetted more towards our American friends) is:
It Gets Better is an Internet-based project founded in the United States by Dan Savage and his husbandTerry Milleron September 21, 2010, in response to the suicides of teenagers who were bullied because they were gay or because their peers suspected that they were gay. Its goal is to prevent suicide among LGBT youth by having gay adults convey the message that these teens’ lives will improve. The project has grown rapidly: over 200 videos were uploaded in the first week, and the project’s YouTube channel reached the 650 video limit in the next week. The project is now organized on its own website, the It Gets Better Project, and includes more than 30,000 entries, with more than 40 million views, from people of all sexual orientations, including many celebrities.
