Member of Youth Parliament
What is Youth Parliament?
The Uk Youth Parliament (UKYP) is run by young people for young people. UKYP gives the young people of the UK a powerful voice which is heard and listened to by local and national government, providers of services and agencies that have an interest in the views and needs of young people.
UKYP launched at the House of Commons in July 1999, and held its first sitting in February 2001 in London. It is now made up of over 600 elected Memebers of Youth Parliament (MYPS) and Deputy (DMYP’s), aged 11 to 18,from diverse social, cultural and educational backgrounds. One of the most important aspects of any MYP’s and DMYP’s job is to make sure they represent the views of young people in their constituency. Those they represent include young men and women, young people from different ethnic backgrounds and those with physical and learning disabilities.
Wokingham Youth Service orcastrates an election every year. Where candidates are asked to nominate themselve and run in a Borough wide election.
