Youth Opportunity Fund – last year, last chance

Ever thought you could make a difference to young people in your area? Ever wanted to change something in Wokingham Borough, but have no money to fund it? Well the Youth Opportunities Fund which is around for its very last year; and it may just be your time to shine!

YOF is a fantastic way for young people to get the most out of their youth projects by obtaining the valuable funding they need.

The Youth Opportunities Fund is in charge of tens of thousands of pounds and we want your projects to fund! If you’re between 13 and 19 and have a creative project that you want to get off the ground then this could be your chance! So far we’ve funded projects such as the Wokingham Youth Café, Barkham Youth Shelter, extra facilities at ARC, and activities for disadvantaged young people, a music project and even a horse to name just a few!

All projects must be applied for by young people, and the decisions will be made up of a group of young people on the Youth Opportunities Fund Panel. Your project needs be independent of schools, and should benefit other young people, and the majority of young people using the project need to be aged between 13 and 19 years old. For more details and the specific guidelines – click here or ring 0118 974 6266 and ask for more help.

The YOF panel is just one of the functions of Y10, the Borough’s Youth Forum. As well as giving out the money we discuss ways to improve the Borough, and are consulted on different issues which affect us. It feels really good to have a say in the running of our community.

There’s 12 members of Y10 at the moment, we age between 13 and 19 and are from all different areas of the Borough. There’s a meeting once a month and occasional visits to YOF projects we’ve funded. We’re looking for new members now – if you are interested in getting involved, contact Catriona MacMillan on 07714 226731 or catriona.macmillan@wokingham.gov.uk
