Summer at Silverdale

HIRA, Fusion, Silverdale Cycles and youth club will be open througout the summer!

Tuesdays
HIRA is a Muslim girls group for girls aged 13-19 from 7-9.30, £2 a week.

Wednesdays
Football Club for young people from 7.15-9 at Goals in Bulmershe.

Fusion is a music project for aspiring musicians, songrwiters and perfomrers. It’s for young people aged 13-19, £1 a week and it’s on from 7-9.30

Thursdays
Every other Thursday is Dr Bike and the Outdoor Youth Club at the BMX track on Paddick Drive – which is free!

Every Thursday at the youth centre is Silverdale Cycles and youth club – for 13-19year olds, from 5-7.30pm £1 a time

Saturdays
Silverdale Cycles Bike Workshop from 10-3 every Saturday – come along and learn how to fix your bike and learn bike maintenance skills!

Do you have a school nurse? Unsure of what they do and think there needs to be more information? Got ideas about what school nurses should do to help keep students in England healthy?

The British Youth Council (BYC) are running a survey on school nurses with the Department for Health to ensure the views of young people shape what school nurses do in schools. We want to hear the views of young people aged 11 to 18 who are in secondary school, college or sixth form in England. The Department of Health’s decisions only affect young people in England but we welcome the responses of young people aged 11 to 18 across the UK too.

By taking part you can also get the chance to win a £50 love2shop voucher!

The deadline to take part is Sunday 31st July.

the Silverdale Cup 2011

Get a team of friends together and enter the Silverdale 5 a side Tournament and BBQ!

Cups and medals up for grabs at this annual event for U14’s and U16’s held at Silverdale Youth club on Thursday 28th July

Inspire Wokingham Family Fun Day

On Saturday July 23, Inspire Wokingham is hosting a ‘Family Fun Day’ to celebrate one year to go until the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics Games at Dinton Pastures Country Park from 11am to 4pm..

Activities will include:

Climbing wall
Archery
Inflatables
Reading FC , London Irish & Reading Rockets mascots
Design Inspire Wokingham mascot competition
Teddy Bear’s picnic & storytelling
Water sports ( half price on the day)
Outdoor fitness suite including the opportunity to try to beat an Olympic rower
Golf putting competition
Stalls & raffles
Live performances of Zumba, dance, free running & gymnastics
Chance to meet an Olympic athlete

Entrance to the event will be free (there will be a small charge for the inflatables and half price on all water sports/golf)

Big Splash 2011!
Saturday 9th July from 11.30 am till 5.00 pm
At the Multi-Activity Centre, Dinton Pastures

What is The Big Splash?
The Big Splash 2011 is a Community Warden led initiative where young people can learn all about water safety, before putting those skills to use in a series of exciting team activities.

The event this year includes a wider variety of activities in partnership with the Wokingham Borough Council’s Multi-Activity centre at Dinton Pastures. (Previously the Black Swan Sailing
Club).
Who can come along?
All family members are welcome for the day’s Events although the main organised activities are for young people aged from 10-15 years.

In addition, we ask that if you do bring any children under 10, that a parent or guardian be there to supervise them at all times.

What about safety?

After registration a full safety briefing session will begin the day’s activities and all staff at the Multi-Activity Centre are fully trained in first aid.
All those taking part should bring a packed lunch and drinks, a pair of shoes they don’t mind getting wet, a change of clothes and a towel!!

You must book in advance!

Programme
11.30 Registration
12:00pm – 1.00pm: Kata-kanu round the Island – 1 hour
1.00pm – 1.30pm: Lunch – BRING YOUR OWN!!
1.30pm – 2.30pm: Kayak slalom time challenge – 1 hour
2.30pm – 3.30pm: Pedal boat relay race – 1 hour
3.30pm – 4.30pm: Rock climbing speed challenge – 1 hour

Youth Action Project

The Youth Action Project is a group of young people age 11-19 who feel passionate about developing the facilities for young people in the Norrey’s ward.

What have we done so far?

eaten biscuits!
got funding from the Youth Opportunities Fund
got permission to decorate the Ashridge Park youth shelter with graffitti art
got involved in a consultation about play equipment
been involved in the Norrey’s project and attended community forums
set up a youth club
set up the Youth Action Project!

We’ll be decorating the youth shelter in Ashridge Park with graffiti art in July!

What else are we going to campaign about?

litter and mess in the park and round the estate
changing people’s perceptions about where we live
doing a walk round the Norreys and taking photos of things we’d like improved
trying to get more activities on the estate

Photo competition – Summer 2011

Send us your photos of Wokingham Borough and you could win a family photoshoot in the Snappy Snaps Studios, Wokingham.

In conjunction with the Cultural Partnership, Wokingham Borough Council is looking for architectural or landscape photographs that define Wokingham Borough. The winning photographs will head up a More Arts exhibition in the Borough. Your entries may also be used by Wokingham Borough Council for publicity and on our website.

There are two age categories: 13 to 17 years and 18 years and over.

Please remember that photographs should not include close-ups of people. More details click here.

Prizes!

The winners of both categories (13-17 and 18+) will be awarded:

A fabulous hour-long photographic session for them and accompanying friends or family (up to a total of six people). This will be an educational experience and will give the Winner the opportunity not only to have their portraits taken by our professional photographer but also be able to discuss photographic styles and techniques.

Furthermore, the winners will receive a complimentary 10” x8” print of their favourite image from the shoot and their family or friends will all receive a complimentary 5”x7” print of the same print to remember the day by. Alternatively, the winners may choose not to redeem their prints and may claim £50 off our fantastic wall mounted product range instead.

The winners and their friends and family will all receive a Snappy Snaps Goodies Bag full of Snappy Snaps stationary and special offers.

The competition closes at 12 noon on the 23rd September 2011 so hurry up and send those pictures in! Do not miss your opportunity to win these fantastic one-off prizes!
